Rest in Peace Dan O’Bannon – You will be missed
Dear Friends of She Never Slept,
I am saddened tonight because we have lost another great one. Dan O’Bannon – Writer, Director, occasional Actor, and so much more – passed away at the age of 63 due to illness. To say that this legend’s presence will be missed is putting it mildly. He had a profound impact on the genres of science fiction and horror and he was a huge influence on me and many people I admire.
Dan O’Bannon graduated from USC the same year as John Carpenter. He co-wrote Carpenter’s first feature Dark Star and was instrumental in it’s production. Though he is probably best known for Alien, Dan O’Bannon was a prolific and obscenely talented man. This year the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival presented him with a Howie – for producting significant contributions to the genre of cosmic horror, weird tales, and the promotion of Lovecraft and his work in particular. It was an honour to be there and see his video acceptance. He truly deserved this recognition. I have embedded the video below.
My deepest sympathies go out to all of Dan’s friends and family. May you travel swiftly to the Summerlands Dan O’Bannon, and may you scare the hades out of everyone you meet there.
In Mourning,
Sarah L. Gerhardt
