The Not-So-Savvy Reader
Hello Ghouls and Boils,
As some of you may recall, this month I did a guest blog stint with Savvy Reader’s Blog. A blog for romance novels is certainly out of our element at She Never Slept… but to quote my friend Terry (then Editor of the blog) “a reader is a reader”. I thought it would be fun to introduce a new audience to our world. Sadly, the Owner of Savvy Readers website disagreed with some statements (made in jest) by one of the authors who I interviewed. She removed his interview and pulled the entire blog. I read these comments and completely disagree with her assessment. I find it reactionary and frankly a little appalling. To do such a thing – in my mind – is borderline censorship. So, in protest, I am removing all of my content from Savvy Reader’s.
People with blogs who do reviews and people with small review sites are journalists. We may be a bit “rogue”, but we do have a responsibility to those we review and interview. On that subject, I will be reposting all of the interviews and the article from my week of guest blogging here on She Never Slept. I appreciate the time given by each Author who contributed and I see no reason for their efforts to be in vain. I am backdating the entries so they have the original publish date. You will find all of the links collected below. If you haven’t read the interviews yet… please do, they really are quite interesting. Enjoy, my fiends!
I will leave you with this final thought: “Censorship in any form is the enemy of creativity, since it cuts off the life blood of creativity: ideas.” — Allan Jenkins

Sarah,
Thanks for standing tall ! !! Any form of censorship in a literary forum is abhorrent, so it’s wonderful to see your support for the redheaded step-children of horror.
Viva SNS & Sarah L. Covert!! !
All my bEastly best! !!

Wow – what a crappy experience. I’m glad you were able to retain your work from them. And as long as their standards were made clear to you, you worked within them and they allowed the work to be posted, I can’t understand why they reacted as they did. Seems like the interviews will live in a better environment here now.
Hello all,
I want to thank all the authors who came on the Savvy blog which is currently up and running. In the course of having you there it has rekindled my love of the short story and the idea to read horror. I kinda thought of it then as an extension of my love for Tales from the Crypt and a childhood fascination with Goosebumps.
As with online talk there is often some mis- communication, of which I am guilty as well. The tab for the Blog was removed from the Main Site. I did not notice that the blog was still linked on the side bar. For a time I was also unable to access the blog due to a technical difficulty and I was thinking it had been removed hence my part in the crossed wires of communication.
As with anything that we love and have worked hard on we get very attached. I may not own the Savvy blog but I do love it and enjoy working on it. I can not express how sorry I am about any upset feelings, misunderstandings, and confusion that has gone on. I am operating the blog and very excited to share thoughts and information there. I thought to return the content here to Sarah and have it republished on this website. I know how much love and care Sarah puts into her news and reviews site, as we all do. An authors time is a valuable thing and it is my hope that the posts get even more attention here, well deserved attention, for the time and consideration that went into making them.
My sincere hope is that it inspired some of the readers of Savvy to look at horror and strange tales again. I hope the horror readers who visited took some time to look for other paranormal authors who have been guests on the site. Thank you for reawakening my interest in horror and I look forward to pursuing some new reading.
