Texas Frightmare Weekend April 30 – May 2, 2010

Hello Ghouls and Boils,

When I wrote the 2009 H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and Cthulhu Con Report, it was a labor of love. I have been participating in that event for a long time now and I wanted to share it with those who simply could not make it. I was very pleased with the feedback I received — from fiends and stranglers alike. I hope that people saw it through my eyes and felt a little like they were there with me. Because there was such a positive response, I knew I had to do this again… but this time I wanted to do something different, something new. That is when I began to research horror conventions and stumbled upon Texas Frightmare Weekend. Two things immediately struck my eye: Dark Horse Comics is a sponsor and Betsy Palmer is a guest. You wouldn’t have to say much else to draw me in. I spoke with people I know who do the convention circuit (vendors and fans) and they all agreed; Texas Frightmare was a fun event. So, I was sold. In 6 months and 2 weeks (who is counting) I will be in Dallas, Texas – ready to bring a little piece of the convention back to those of you who can’t make it. It should be an interesting Stranger in a Strange Land take on things. Will the weird Portland girl survive a weekend in Texas? – Stay tuned to find out… Luckily, I have a friend who is a native to this savage territory – so hopefully I will have a translator on hand. (I lived in San Antonio for a few years when I was a kid, but it has been a long while since I spent any time in Texas. I suspect I will need a guide. *winks*)

This is Frightmare’s 5th anniversary and it looks like they have a lot of phantastic things planned. Have no fear – I will periodically update SNS with the latest about the convention. Tonight I have some truly terrorific news to share from the folks at Texas Frightmare Weekend. I won’t make you wait any longer! Enjoy my fiends!

Abstrusely,
Sarah L. Gerhardt

JOHN CARPENTER Joins TFW 2010!

promo_carpenter

Join us April 30-May 2, 2010 in Dallas as Texas Frightmare Weekend salutes legendary filmmaker and composer John Carpenter! This movie maverick staggered audiences in 1978 by unleashing suburban boogeyman Michael Myers into our collective nightmares with Halloween. Carpenter’s continued to chip away at frayed nerves with The Thing, Christine, The Fog and so many more, including fan-favorite Snake Plissken’s misadventures in Escape From New York. We are tremendously honored John Carpenter has graciously accepted our invitation and we eagerly await his latest fright flick, The Ward!

Three first-time guests added!

Texas Frightmare Weekend is pleased to welcome three additions to our fifth annual horror convention and film festival April 30-May 2, 2010 in Dallas. Veteran genre actor Lance Henriksen is by far one of our most requested guests. It’s easy to see why with a career that spans mega-movies such as Aliens and Terminator to horror highlights Pumpkinhead and Near Dark to the darker-than-dark TV series “Millennium” and beyond. (He’s also really into ceramics!)

We’re also thrilled to welcome fellow TFW first-timers Meg Foster and Kane Hodder. Ms. Foster’s icy gaze made her a latter-day femme fatale worthy of besting Rowdy Roddy Piper and He-Man. And while many have taken up Jason’s machete during Friday the 13th’s quarter century of quartering cavorting coeds, Kane’s four-time unhappy camper swung an occupied sleeping bag like no other!

Hotel & Convention information:

Room reservations are now open for April 30-May 2, 2010 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel DFW Airport in Irving, Texas. Act now to receive our exclusive TEXAS FRIGHTMARE WEEKEND reduced rate of $124 by reserving online or dialing (972) 929-8400.

Discounted weekend and day passes are also on sale in our online store. Vendor spaces are also available and expected to fill quickly as our incredible roster of fright favorites grows!
