Perry wakes up in an arroyo, hungover and unsure how he got there. His wallet and cell phone missing, he walks back to the last place he remembers being before he blacked out—the bar. Fueled by alcohol and a touch of companionship, Perry is determined to find out who rolled him, but standing in his way is an accident that happened six months earlier and the struggle his life has become since. In his search for the material things taken from him, he risks walking right past something far more precious: A new beginning. This new novella by Zelazny is dark, gripping, emotional noir at its best!
Hello Ghouls and Boils,
Today I am frightfully delighted to present a review on Trent Zelazny’s new book Butterfly Potion. As our irregular (er… regular readers) know, we are big fans of Zelazny’s work here at SNS. So I won’t dally let us get straight to the review, wicked ones. And as always – Enjoy, my fiends!
Abstrusely,

Those who are regular readers here know that I like to stay spoiler free. This is particularly difficult task with short stories and novellas… but I believe it can be done. So skirt the edges of this mysterious tale with me.
Misery loves company. This could not be more true for our protagonist, Perry. Misery is his shadow. One day he wakes with nothing but change in his pockets. He went to the one sure place that people would know him – the local pub. Without money, he was about to be tossed. A boon was sent his way.
To paraphrase from Spiderman: “Hey Perry, you just hit the jackpot!”. A lovely red head offers him some of the hair of the dog that bit him, so to speak. I don’t think either of them knew what they were in for. This story takes you through so many twists and turns it leaves your head spinning. The journey is totally worth it.
Final Thoughts:
If you have ever been down and out, this book is for you. If you love a good mystery this book is for you. If your a fan of noir this book is for you. Bravo, Trent and a hearty ”Iä! Iä! – I give this book a rare 6 out of 5 tentacles.
