Bloody Baudelaire aka Backgammon
Hello Ghouls and Boils,
Today I received some wonderful news from R.B. Russell (winner of a 2010 Nightmare Award here at SNS). Bloody Baudelaire — a book [that] defies categorization, as most good books do – it is equal parts gothic horror, mystery, romance, strange tale, and more — is now in production as a film under the title Backgammon. The staff here at She Never Slept couldn’t be more thrilled for the terrorifically talented author (and publisher at my favorite small publishing house Tartarus Press) Ray Russell. I am excited to see how this movie turns out. I have read the novella many times and my fondness for this memorable piece grows stronger each time I crack open the book. I hope the filmmakers do it some justice.
The film version of Bloody Baudelaire will be directed by Francisco Orvañanos. The writers are Francisco Orvañanos, Todd Niemi, and R.B. Russell. The actors include: Olivia Crocicchia, Christian Alexander, Alex Beh, Brittany Allen (pictured below), and Noah Silver.
I don’t know if any of the actors are as I pictured them, but you rarely see what’s in your imagination on the big screen. So long as they embody a portion of the charm the characters posses in Mr. Russell’s tale I will be happy.
We will be sure to keep you posted as events unfold. The book is sold out, but if you are lucky you might stumble across a copy somewhere. In the meantime, check out the movie details and read our review. As always – Enjoy, my fiends.
Abstrusely,
Sarah L. Covert
